A quiet reminder of Tobago’s colonial past still stands along the Kilgwyn–Store Bay Road.

The remaining mill walls of the former Kilgwyn Estate, located in Parish St. Patrick, are among the last visible traces of what was once a thriving sugar plantation during the island’s plantation era. Historical records note that in November 1834, the estate was offered for sale in London and was described as comprising approximately 500 acres of fertile land, complete with a coral stone windmill, sugar works, dwelling house, and other estate buildings.

Today, the wind tower remains the most recognizable feature of the former sugar factory complex, offering a glimpse into Tobago’s rich and layered history.
