Known as the “Bird of Paradise Island,” Little Tobago is a small but historically rich island located just off the northeastern coast of Tobago, near Speyside.
In the early 1900s, British ornithologist Sir William Ingram introduced the Greater Bird of Paradise from New Guinea to protect them from the plume trade. While the birds didn’t survive long-term, the island became a protected sanctuary for seabirds.
Today, Little Tobago is one of the most important seabird nesting sites in the Southern Caribbean, home to species like the Red-billed Tropicbird, Brown Booby, Audubon's Shearwater, and the iconic Magnificent Frigatebird (Man-o-War Bird).
Visitors can enjoy glass-bottom boat tours from Speyside, with opportunities for both birdwatching and snorkelling over vibrant coral reefs between Little Tobago and Goat Island.
Now part of Tobago’s protected nature reserves, this is a must-see for eco-tourists, bird lovers, and marine adventurers.
